Neurotoxin BOTOX for Wrinkles & Lines

As one of our most popular neurotoxin offerings at The Colorado Center for Health and Longevity, BOTOX injections can make a big improvement to the dynamic lines and wrinkles that are created by making expressions with the contracting muscles on the upper face. These facial lines go away when the face is relaxed, but over time, dynamic lines can become deep set into your skin.

The BOTOX muscle relaxer is a filtered strain of type A botulinum toxin that temporarily freezes the movements of the muscle. To correct these lines, BOTOX is carefully injected to soften the skin. BOTOX is most commonly administered by Dr. Ian Levenson between the brows, around the eyes (to correct crow's feet), and along the forehead.

BOTOX injections are available as an outpatient procedure at The Colorado Center for Health and Longevity. If it is your first time to visit our office for BOTOX, we typically perform the treatment during the same day as your initial consultation with Dr. Levenson. You will be asked to make several expressions using your upper face, like frowning, squinting, smiling, etc. to help us to visualize where the injections should be placed. You can ask for a numbing cream to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it usually is not necessary.

BOTOX treatments typically take around 10-15 minutes, and you may return to your usual activities as soon as you feel able.

Dysport Cosmetic Injections

Dysport Injections for Facial Wrinkles

Another neurotoxin offered at The Colorado Center for Health and Longevity, Dysport is an injectable treatment that acts like BOTOX to soften and reduce dynamic wrinkles and lines throughout the face. Dynamic wrinkles are created by repetitive facial expressions and movements (like laughing, smiling, and frowning) that eventually make the muscles of the face taut. This causes the skin over the muscle to have an etched line that can be seen even when the face is resting.

Dysport is specifically formulated to treat the most frequent dynamic wrinkles: the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows. It temporarily relaxes the treated muscle so the skin is smooth but with natural-looking results that don't "freeze" your face.

Injections of Dysport are performed in one of our treatment rooms following your consultation with Dr. Levenson, lasting around 15-30 minutes. A local anesthetic or numbing cream is generally unnecessary because the Dysport is injected using a fine needle that creates minimal pain, but it may be applied if requested. Following your treatment at The Colorado Center for Health and Longevity, you are free to perform normal tasks, but you should avoid taxing activities for at least 24 hours.

Eliminate Unwanted Wrinkles & Without Surgery

Xeomin Injections for Frown Lines & More

A third neurotoxin option offered at The Colorado Center for Health and Longevity, Xeomin is an injectable medication that can help smooth unwanted lines and wrinkles on the face by relaxing the corresponding facial muscles.

Although its effects and abilities are similar to BOTOX, Xeomin is made with pure botulinum toxin type A, whereas BOTOX contains additional synthetic ingredients. If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients besides type A botulinum toxin, or if you’re simply concerned about the contents of the BOTOX injection for personal reasons, Xeomin might be the right alternative for you.

If you’d like to learn more about Xeomin or start the process of developing your treatment plan, reach out to Dr. Levenson and his team and schedule your first consultation today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are neurotoxins safe?

As long as it is administered correctly, neurotoxin injections should not cause serious complications.  Quickly becoming one of the most requested cosmetic treatments, neurotoxins is considered safe and has earned approval from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

However, it's still very important to find someone with experience injecting BOTOX, like Dr. Levenson. Too much of the product may cause unwanted results. An experienced injector will apply the right dose to safely relax the facial muscles, causing the unwanted wrinkles without affecting other nearby muscles.

What are the benefits of Dysport vs. BOTOX?

While Dysport and BOTOX serve the same function and work the same way, slight variations in the proteins present in both can have different results in different people. Dr. Levenson will work with you and help you decide which treatment will yield the best results for you.

What are the benefits of Xeomin vs. Dysport?

The primary difference between Xeomin and Dysport is that Xeomin only contains botulinum toxin without any other additives.

What’s the difference between relaxers and fillers?

Injectable wrinkle relaxers (including BOTOX) and injectable wrinkle fillers (including Restylane and Juvéderm) are both popular cosmetic procedures that decrease wrinkles and correct fine lines. However, BOTOX works by relaxing overused muscles in your face that create dynamic wrinkles, including frown lines (which appear between your eyebrows), Crow's feet (which appear in the outer edges of your eyes), smile lines, and forehead wrinkles, whereas wrinkle fillers increase volume below the skin to correct depressions and improve the appearance of wrinkles on the surface. Depending on your goals, Dr. Levenson may suggest BOTOX, injectable fillers, or a "liquid facelift," which combines both.
